The Good News Is...

...I'm not crazy. The bad news is...they think my band has a leak.

I went to have a fill today, which I desperately needed, because I'm hungry a LOT, and I could eat a cow (or bowls of icing...you know...whatever...) and she's asking me if I ever have reflux (no) and if I ever have trouble swallowing (no) and if I've ever had anything come up (no), and she's seeming doubtful, since I have 7.6 cc's in there. So she says she's going to be a little more aggressive with my fill (which means 1 whole cc, rather than .1 of one), and then she sticks me and withdraws all the fluid. And I can see her brow furrowing. So I ask what's wrong. And she's not really answering me...and then she says "well it's strange...you're supposed to have 7.6 cc's in here...and I'm only barely getting 5." So I ask her what that means, and she says that I might have a slow leak. What that means is, they might have to replace my port. Which means surgery. Which I am SO not thrilled about.

I'm glad that I'm not crazy. I knew I was struggling, and I knew I was hungry, but I was honestly worried I'd stretched my pouch or something. Nope. I've been wide open since I'm guessing about January. Because I came out of surgery with 5 cc's in there. I mean come ON! Right now I'm a little ticked off...like how much time have I wasted? But what can you do, right? My next fill is scheduled for August 16th, so I'll know more then...

And that's my story...

  1. Ugh. That I just nuts. I guess the good side of surgery is it will jump start you again and you can make up for lost time...or at least that is what I would tell myself...lol

  2. Bummer! I hope it was something like majical evaporation or something that will fix itself, and not require surgery!

  3. Well, double shit on a stick.
HOWEVER..if you do have a leak, and they fix it, can you imagine how much more you are going to lose? You've already done AMAZINGLY well, even with a damn leak!

  4. I had to have my port location moved and it was a super easy surgery and recovery, in fact it was a day surgery. Trust me, I didn't want another surgery but it was one of the best things I have done in this band journey.

  5. Well, just see how it goes. Maybe you never really had as much in as they thought - mistakes do happen(even if they just recorded it wrong). If you do have to do the port replacement it's not too bad. Rick did it and it was much easier than the full surgery.

  6. No fucking way! Although, that would explain a lot. Don't think of the time as wasted. Look at how MUCH you have accomplished. Would you have lost 100+ pounds without your ghost band? What's next? The fluid x-ray thingy?

  8. Maybe they can just keep topping you up if it's such a slow leak. Hope your hungries go away.

  9. I don't know anything about being banded, but another surgery does not sound like fun. :(

  12. I am so sorry!! I can't imagine how much that would suck! :( I'm glad it wasn't just you but having surgery to correct it is not the option you wanted.

  13. That stinks!! Did she fill you back up? If not, I wonder why they're making you wait so long for your next fill. At the very beginning, my doctor "lost" a cc in my band -- but it turns out there was no leak. They either didn't put in the right amount (most likely) or the pressure in the band was such that it hang on to that cc (doesn't make sense to me). I'm hopeful this is just a screw up and that you're fine.

How bad would it be to just keep getting filled up periodically if you have a slow leak? I don't think that a little saline would hurt you, though I'm no doctor. Really sorry you're having to deal with this though. Just channel Jacquie and hang in there...

  15. OH GILLY. That suuuuucks.

It is *such* a relief to hear that you're not crazy, though, isn't it? That there actually is something up and it's not just you getting nuttier and nuttier.

    Smooches. xoxo

  16. That totally blows, but look at it this way: WITH a slow leak, you have still kicked total ass! If you have to have it fixed replaced, you will get back to where you need to be and it's not like it will be this majorly invasive thing. You'll be back to weight loss ass kicking before you know it!! but are you SURE you're not just a little bit crazy? It's a part of yoru personality I love!
