Really SERIOUSLY Pushing 40

Ok people. It's on the horizon. Not being 40lbs down. Not eating 40 wings. Not having 40 children. Not even drinking 40 glasses of wine. In a few short days, I will have crossed the line...and I will be a 40 year old. Fuck. Deep breaths.

I'm having une petite meltdown because only a few hours ago, I learned that my family is planning a surprise birthday party for me tomorrow fucking night!! And it has remained a surprise until literally a few hours ago (how did they pull that off?? Is it possible I'm not as sharp and perceptive as I think I am?? Nooooo...can't be...). And I know that some people are suprise party people and, for them, this would be a dream come true. I am NOT one of these people. Not that I'm not secretly a teeny tiny bit delighted (shhh...I tell you guys everything, but don't tell the masses), but I am also freaking out!!! I have nothing to wear!! Well I DO but I was saving it for Chicago!! I know I sound like a horrible, ungrateful bitch, but I swear I'm not! I'm just a control freak! Honest! Fuuuuuuck!

Ok...deep breaths. I know this is good. And it means that people love me. And in spite of not having control over the guest list, everything will be ok. Right? RIGHT???

  2. It will be fine - OK??? I'm not sure if I'd be really excited about it either, but that fact that a big group of people are willing to show up is awesome. Plus, people must have worked hard to get it together. You can wear your BOOBs clothes cause we won't be there (unfortunately).
I'll help get you through this and next year it's me with the big 40.
Just go to your happy place tomorrow night.

    Love ya!

  3. It must be old age having caused you to miss the clues....lol ;-). Well, wear a dress you've bought for Chicago...different people will see you in it! You can post the birthday pics after you get back from Chi-town!

  4. It absolutely will be just fine. Why not give one of your fab Chicago outfits a test drive? It will still be new to everyone there and you will look and feel wonderful for your "surprise" party.

40 isn't so bad. Really it isn't. I am enjoying my forties. :D

  12. Best thing about a surprise party. . none of it is your responsibility! You just have to show up and smile. Definitely wear the Chicago outfit -- you can wear it twice, you know! :) I'm turning 40 in November. . I feel your pain. . but God knows it's so much better coming into 40 finally feeling good about our weight, right? :)

Happy birthday nonetheless!! Have a great time tonight!

  13. Sh!t. And here we thought we could keep it a secret that the Chicago gathering is really a celebration of your birthday.

Stop the tears. I'm closer to 60 than I am to 50 so I consider you all my iKids. BTW, my 40's were the best years of my life. Then I got old. Then I got thinner. Then I got to meet all you wonderful kids and then I get to go to Chicago to celebrate Gilly's 40th. Wear the clothes you have for Chicago. We'll never know and hope you have a grand party.

  17. Oooooh, you're probably all drunky right now. How cute. Hope the party was smashing (HA! get it?) and you had an awesome time and you feel all warm and loved.

I keep telling myself that my 40s are going to be my best decade - I've always been so scattered, and it takes me such a long time to get my shit together. I feel like it's finally starting to happen, and I am *totally* going to rock my 40s. So are you, Gillybeane.

  18. Sorry I'm late on this. I turned 40 2 years ago and it's actually been pretty great. I feel like the band has renewed me, my kids are getting old enough where hubby and I can have date night and not have to pay a sitter and life is generally pretty damn good.
