Inside The Mind Of The Fat Chick

Well...my eating has been for shit this week. This has happened before, and I know exactly why it happens. I fall off the protein bandwagon (no pun...ok...a little pun intended) and I get bogged down with carboliciousness. I KNOW this happens. I KNOW when it happens, it takes me days of detoxing and not giving in to cravings to get back to where I was. And yet...

Why is it that even with all I've learned, and as far as I've come, my brain still goes "oh...well it's a special day...we get to eat crap!! WOOHOOO!!" My birthday...the one and only thing I wanted for dinner was KFC. The most fat and salt laden food I can think of. I freaking want to roll around in it! We never have it. And any time we have in the past, I take the skin off before I give it to my kids! My kids don't know KFC even HAS skin! Mummy does though! I get double skin! Woooo! The problem is, first of all, it's never as good as you think it's going to be! I mean, I've been chasing the dragon for YEARS with KFC! And second of all. after being totally swollen for 2 days after eating it, man am I jonesing for carbs! I've been avoiding the scale like the plague. I need to detox! And I need to re-wire my brain so it stops thinking that a "special occasion" is a reason to eat crap. Because let's face it, I can make anything into a special occasion. Arg.

Maybe NOT watching FoodTV 24/7 would be a good start? lol!

  1. I feel you on this one! I do the same thing and its so painful to get back on track. Proof positive that negative reinforcement doesn't work on me.

  2. Damn KFC sounds good. Not going to lie there. LOL! But, you're right - it's not worth the bloat and the inevitable carb detox the next week. Which sucks. :(

My biggest weakness is chicken fingers. I'm not much for wings, but you give me some Chili's chicken crispers and sister will go to town.

Love reading your blog. I laugh all the time. :)

  3. I know how you feel! Especially about being able to make any occasion special. I hate when you build a meal up in your head and then you eat it and it doesn't taste as good as you thought. Just remember that next time-easier said than done I know. :)

  4. Right there with you. Hey, we're expecting a huge storm today! Which means I'll probably lose power! It's a special occasion!

Stay strong, you skinny bitch. xoxo

  6. What I hate is when you get something like KFC stuck in your head and you can't stop thinking about it until you get it. It's so annoying! TV commercials can be evil sometimes too! All those ads for all the fun things...all you have to do is drive over and pick it up...ugh. It's an everyday battle, but you can do it! :)

  7. Don't think I want to know how they get double skin on a chicken!

No real advice as I'm also off the wagon, but we both know what needs to be done. But like you, I'm also suffering from birthday-I-just-wanna-splurge-itis. Tomorrow will be better. Right?

  9. Food Network, Cooking Channel, and recently Travel Channel have been the DEVIL! I swear...they know we are out there...they are tracking us! I know it...because I tell myself I am not gonna watch it and damnit...its like my remote goes for it anyways!

You can do this! Tomorrow is October 1st...make it the start of a new month and start the detox then...things tend to be easier at the beginning...(I mean the beginning of a week, month, ect...) That's what I am planning on doing! (We can do it together!!)

    :)

  12. I think we all do this, if I knew why I'd be a millionare, but the great thing is you dont have to let anything ruin your whole day, as hard as it can be take your day meal by meal, if not you can get sucked into the tunnel of tomorrow, "I will start tomorrow," "I will start on Monday" ... bla bla bla - I do it all the time. The fact is once you have a carb it raises your insulin and as soon as your levels go down it MAKES your body crave more - like a drug addict. Everyone has to find their own way of dealing with this, what I try to do it this: I recognize that I am eating something VERY high in carbs and that in about 1 or 2 hours I am going to have a craving, I try to drink lots and lots of water, and then when I get the craving I talk to myself and recognize that I don't eally need or want the sugar, but my body's out of wack and doing it to me, that usually helps me and then I have some protein and eventually the cravings go away and poof your butt is comfortably back on that wagon :)

  14. It must be contagious because I have been eating shit since I came home from Chicago. Like half of Cate's birthday cake - must throw it away.
    Stay strong sister.

  17. Come on girl. WE need to be the skinny biatches at the next BOOBS get together. Keep your eye on the prize..not the carbs. :)

  18. I SO know what you mean! As soon as I decided to go to Chicago, the fat girl in me got terribly excited about Chicago style deep dish pizza. I even put off a fill because I wanted that damn pizza. It was the first thing I did when I got there after checking in, and I even dragged others in with me. (Ok, so they WANTED to go, but still...it was my idea and I feel a little bad for corrupting them.) I hadn't had Chicago style pizza since I was a kid, I LOVED IT then, and this was the REAL thing...in CHICAGO. I drooled the whole time I waited for it to cook and it got to the table to a choir of angels singing the hallelujah chorus and it was...meh. I mean, it was good but it wasn't, "Oh my god the heavens have parted and it's the best thing ever and I will cry now because it's so fabulous." Nope. Just, you know, regular old good. A bit greasy. Really salty and doughy. I didn't even finish the leftovers I took back to the room. That was a bit disappointing but I came to the conclusion you did - it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. And maybe that's a good thing if I can keep it in mind for the next time that happens.

  20. The chickens are now dancing in my head the way I imagine sugarplums danced in those kids' heads on Christmas Eve! I haven't had KFC in a VERY long time. When I was a kid my mom and I would buy some chicken breasts, put them in the fridge to get cold, and then eat them for breakfast.

Sometimes I hate that I have to be "different" and not be able to have what I want because of what the scale will do or how much water I will retain. The times I do give in to temptation I end up hating myself because the detox is never worth the indulgence in the first place.

You'll get back on track...you always do! (and seriously, chickens are dancing in my head)

  23. It's hard when you get cravings like that. I get those KFC boneless filet... They are not that bad in calories and you can get your crave on without ending up with a bucket of slop... I don't enjoy it as much as I used to... anymore. You can even get a grilled boneless filet for days when you are rockin' the band. Your birthday only comes once a year but I hear you about the detox from the cravings. *Maria*-blogger from "This one time at BAND Camp..."

  24. A pain scare (turns out to be gallstones) got me all my fluid removed for a couple weeks. I feel like I've got to hit all the greasy bucket restaurants before I get filled again.

So I'm eating the gnarly chicken AND the biscuits with butter.

    Tis bad...tis very very bad.

  25. I can't believe it... I've been eating HORRIBLY since I got back, but one thing I never crave is KFC... UNTIL YOU POSTED THAT PICTURE!!! Now, all I want is some crispy, spicy, chicken skin! EWWW...
