...how it is POSSIBLE to eat 1100 calories or significantly less every single day, and not lose any weight?? According to the many metabolic rate calculators I've found online, just sitting around doing nothing, I'm burning well over 2000 calories per day. So the rule of calories in/calories out should mean I'm totally losing weight, right?? Um, no. And don't give me any of this "starvation mode" nonsense, because I don't buy it.
ARG!!! Frustrating!!!

I hear ya sister!! I've eaten next to nothing(maaaybe 300 cals per day)lately- except for an 'incident' last night - and NADA for 5 days. Boo!!!
ReplyDeleteI have this same issue myself. It has been explained to me that your body begins to get "used to" the number of calories you take in. It kind of self-adjusts. So if you are always taking in 1000 calories and burning waaay more, your metabolism will self-adjust to burn less and save more. This is the basis of the starvation, self-preservation argument. It is also the cause of the dreaded week 2 curse on the Biggest Loser. Sometimes it doesn't really matter that you calorie burn is incredibly high - your body is trying to adjust to your new behavior.
ReplyDeleteSo - everyone I talked to (including the nutritionist) said to step up my calories for a day or two. So I did - by about 200 calories of protein. And the scale started moving again.
see...that is exactly why I posted this! I knew someone out there was going to give me an awesome suggestion! And I am going to take it! Let's see how it works out.
ReplyDeleteI think we all go through this period of seeming to survive on nothing but water and air and yet sill not losing weight. I'm with TracyZ - I had a plateau and so upped my calories for a few days, lo and behold, the weight started coming off again. Admittedly, it's stalled again at the moment but that's cos I'm now eating too much...so I'm now blaming Bandster Hell. There's always something to blame!
ReplyDeleteThere's hormonal weight, too. The only thing you can do about that is be patient. My weight loss is often predictable by the TOM.
ReplyDeleteI've been on nothing but liquids for 2 days and my scale hasn't moved. It IS frustrating. I figure I am just peeing out everything that's going in, so shouldn't I see some sort of drop? I feel for you sister!!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya! I've been eating between 800-1000 cals & I am 3 weeks post op. Guess what - I have not loast a freakin' pound in two weeks. On the other hand DH - banded same day as me - is down 35 lbs! Guess how frustrated I am right now :(
ReplyDeleteSame with me. Only down a measley 0.2 pounds in the last few days and am only getting in about 800 calories. I know when I hit the plateau before I would give up and eat a huge meal (think KFC) and the next day--surprise surprise surprise--my weight would be down. Try upping the calories and let us know.
ReplyDeleteOh I am pigging out. All things considered. I ate a cup of cream of wheat with blueberries on it for breakfast (which I normally skip) and then for lunch I had 2 hot dogs with one bun, and since then have had a large handful of cashew nuts and another large handful of Hershey's kisses. Oh yeah...all bets are off. I am stuffed though. I'm going out for dinner tonight too...and I'm having fries! Do you hear me...FRIES!
ReplyDeleteWe all stall out sometimes and it is frusteratinng. One suggestion I always get is to change up the calories every coouple of day, both increase and decrease.
ReplyDeleteIt will also get easier with each fill.
It will be interesting to hear if increasing your calories for a few days then going back down gets the scale moving in the right direction. I've also heard that works.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your frustration. Part of me thought that as soon as I started eating smaller portions and making good choices the weight would fall off and continue to do so until I hit goal. No such luck. It's getting really hard to stay the course, I'm hanging on by a thread. I may have to give in and have some fries myself.
ReplyDeleteOMG - me too! I don't understand this at all! I'd love it if you followed me!
