Torn ACL

Well...no wonder my knee disliked the Zumba class more than my ass did...turns out, my ACL is completely torn.  It was torn slightly when I was 20, but apparently, when I fell last winter, I finished it off.  Also I have osteoarthritis in the knee, a cyst, and some bone fragments.  Niiiice!  So that was the MRI report today...and I will have to go talk to a surgeon to see if it's worth it to have surgery, which is a pretty gross surgery (I advise you NOT to search it on youtube and spend several hours watching in horror) with a long recovery time.  Knee brace, here I come.

That said, tomorrow I am going to do Zumba because I liked it, and my ass urgently needs to shrink more, since I found out the seat I'm in on the plane to Chicago is a window seat.  Stress!  Nothing like the stress of impending flarping over onto your neighbour's seat to put the fear of jeebus into you, right?  And I'm flying American Airlines...and I hear tell that those Americans* throw fatties off planes...

*I am aware that it was Southwest that tossed Kevin Smith off the plane...but still...

  1. Oh no - sorry about your knee. Any orthopedic surgery is rough, but if it needs to be done take care of it lady. Have fun at Zumba tomorrow.

  2. You crazy woman you; nothing slows you down! :)
As a veteran of knee surgery I can tell you it is NO fun! LONG recovery and things are never quite the same. That is one of the top reasons I had WLS to make things a little better on my knee...You are a braver woman than I to be out there "zumbaing"! :) Hope it works out! With a torn ACL, you are up there with all of the famous sports figures!

  3. Shit Gilly, that beyond sucks about your knee. Make sure it doesn't get in the way of the Chicago trip, but if you need us to Joey and I can carry you.

Oh, and the only thing you have to worry about on that plane is getting picked up, you hottie you.

  9. Oh no! I am so sorry about your knee. I hope you can avoid surgery (this coming from a woman who has worked in a renowned Orthopaedic Surgery setting!!)... it is just better to stay off the table at all costs IF you can heal on your own.
Sorry if I've been a crappy reader: but was therapy proposed as an option ? (Physio?) If not: maybe that would be a good plan, to strengthen the rest of your knee to make up the difference for the ACL??

    Good luck honey!!

  10. That really stinks! Are there any water aerobics classes you can take? I've always like those and it would be less stress on your knees.

  13. I hate that your knee is messed up. I have a feeling it is going to take some of the fun out of Zumba! Be careful while you're shaking it all over the dance floor!!

And American isn't bad. I flew them at 285, in a window seat, and no one batted an eyelash. I am sure you are going to be fine.

  18. Gilly, I am sorry to hear about your knee but the recovery is not too bad really...just keep up the PT like they tell you to and you will do great. Ask if they can put you into PT until your surgery (you will need one) so that you can strengthen until you have the surgery. Best of luck to you!!
