Recently, I eschewed my mother's teachings about library books being disgusting because they are full of other people's boogers, and I began, for the first time in my life, using the local library. My first book was "In Defense Of Food: An Eater's Manifesto" by Michael Pollan, which was interesting, and it made me afraid to eat anything ever again. I recommend it. Then I realized I could finally see how Battlestar Galactica ended FOR FREE, so I took out DVD's. Today, I got "Barney's Version", by Mordecai Richler, on a particularly brilliant friend's recommendation, and I am very excited to read it! But the book that I am most excited about, and I think some of you might be excited about it too (or might even have read it, and if you have, don't be spoilers, or I will smack you!) is "Such A Pretty Fat - Seriously, Another Memoir - or Why Pie Is Not The Answer", by Jen Lancaster.
And THEN the doorbell rang, and there was a box! And I was orgasmic with glee because Jen's pants had already arrived, and I hadn't ordered anything aside from my shoes, which as you know, already arrived (and are super comfy and awesome - wore them out the other day - fabulousness!) It was a BOX OF BOOKS!!! But not just any box of books! It's the Sookie Stackhouse collection - yes that's right, True Blood fans...I am going to be balls deep in vampire-y goodness! My friend Jenny in Texas got into them, and she has graciously passed them along and OH MY GOD I am so excited!! SO much to read! When will I ever get to the blogs??

Re: previous post. I had to fight back tears when my mom opened her bday card last night because my 2 year old traced "Mimi" in it. (Mimi is what the kids call my mom.) And I'd blubber with pride when my nephew would perform or get awards, I don't know what's going to happen when my it's my own kids.
ReplyDeleteRe: this post. I'm a reader (well, with a full time job and two kids under 3, so it's slow going) but I've never really gotten into non-novelly books. I usually read whodunnits but I'm willing to branch out for you. I will order Pretty Fat on ebay today.
Ahhhh! I love the Sookie Stackhouse novels! I've read all of them (and have them all too!). Have you read any of them yet? They beat the Twilight series ASS!
ReplyDeleteOh I HATE the Twilight series (sorry, Twilighters). I hate how stupid and klutzy and weak Bella is. Worst. Heroine. EVER!!!
ReplyDeleteOk, I just ordered the Jen Lancaster book from Amazon!! I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteI am SO JEALOUS! I want those books. I think I'm making my husband buy them for me for my B-Day. Enjoy!!
ReplyDelete"balls deep in vampire-y goodness" LMAO!!
ReplyDeletei'm gonna have to check out the pretty fat book too!!
ugh...reading it is depressing me because it IS just like I wrote it...which means I'm not exceptional and one-of-a-kind like i think i am. I HATE when I have to come to terms with my own mediocrity!
ReplyDeleteOMG - balls deep! I nearly fell off my chair - my hubby says that all the time and I thought he was the only one! Happy reading! Smooches!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE Jen Lancaster! She is so darn funny she makes me nearly pee myself. Another along the same lines is Laurie Notaro - she has one called "Autobiography of a Fat Bride". I read it when I was engaged and OHMYGOD it was the only thing that kept me sane when I wanted to kill everyone.
ReplyDeleteGilly I bought that book over 2 years ago...and still haven't read it. LAME I know. Maybe after I am done with my current book, I will have to read Jen Lancasters book......(Oh and your evil plan is still working)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite new word! Bookgasm!
ReplyDeleteNow I need to go order that book ASAP. Crap, I have so much to read, so little time!
Enjoy!
