What To Do?

So, this morning, I got on the scale, fully expecting to see a gain, because on the weekend I cooked a turkey, and when I cook a turkey, I always cover it in bacon (which is such an awesome way to do it...the meat gets basted with the bacon fat as it cooks and turns out really tender and then the bacon sort of melds to the turkey skin in this unbelievably orgasmic crispy deliciousness...well...it's really quite something and the next time you have turkey, I strongly recommend you try this method).  So, of course, as I'm getting the rest of the dinner ready, I'm picking at the bacon/turkey skin ambrosia, and when I finally get ahold of myself, I realize I've probably eaten about half a pound of bacon, along with god knows how much turkey skin (see how much restriction I DON'T have??)

So here's my problem.  I got on the scale this morning and I have actually LOST weight.  In fact, since I had my last fill 2 weeks ago, I'm down probably 5-6lbs.  Which is awesome, yes it is...but I'm scared that they won't give me another fill, even though I feel I really need one.  I feel like I'm really working to lose this weight...I feel like the band is helping minimally, and I need more help.  But I'm scared they'll say "no, we're looking for one to two pounds a week, and you're losing much more than that...everything's fine...come back when you're gaining."  What do you think?

  1. I'm worried about the same thing. Down about 11 pounds since my fill less than 3 weeks ago. Hopefully your followers have some good wisdom to share.

Two of my husband's favorite things in the world are turkey and bacon. I am soooo not a cook but I'd love to try that. Would I totally be in over my head? Can you post more details?

  2. Hi Gilly

If you can manage to lose 5 - 6 lbs every two weeks maybe you do not need another fill yet...that is a great rate of loss..well done

  3. Tell your doctor you are losing, but you're doing it on your own. He should "get" that. The criteria for a fill isn't only weight loss. Let him know how hungry you still are. Some docs do a protein test. You paid for the help, he should let your tool get to where it needs to be so you aren't doing this on your own. I bet he or she will listen.

  4. Your doctor is YOUR DOCTOR! It's like going to a hairstylist and them saying you don't need a hair cut! It's your hair and this is your band!
If my doctor told me no fill, I'd argue. I do understand that health and hair are two totally different things but it was the best analogy I could come up with!

My docs stance is, if you are hungry between meals, you need a fill.

  5. Or if you really want a fill, drink about 2 gallons of water just before you step on the scales and your weightloss won't show :-)

Sorry about that--they did that on the Biggest Loser one week. I am so looking for a fill tomorrow to see if I can start losing some weight. I too am eating almost everything right now. I think they will listen if you tell them you are having a tough time. You had turkey/bacon, I had pulled beef with lots of BBQ sauce this weekend. Yummy.

  6. Yeah, it's not that I can't do it (the losing weight); it's more that I think I can't KEEP doing it without a little more help. Like I ate at about 12:45 (protein - ham), and it's 2:02 and I am hungry again.

As for the turkey, Jess, here's what you do: take the giblets and neck out of the turkey (the bag of giblets is in the neck, not the body cavity - learned that the hard way) and then either stuff the bird with a mixture of onion, celery and carrot, or with stuffing if you do that. Then, take a package of bacon and basically lay the bacon all over the turkey. Cover the whole bird. Then put the lid on and cook it like that for a few hours. For the last hour, take the lid off to crisp everything up. YUM!!!

  7. Man, that turkey bacon combo sounds awesome. I totally love both. I will add that to my list of things to eventually make!
