I did it. I joined the gym. Just for the summer, but still. This morning, I awoke with about 50 reasons why I couldn't do it today. They ranged from "I can't find my running shoes" to "the only clean underwear I have left crawls up my butt". But in the end, I found the elusive running shoes, I put on my Polar F4 (in ice blue - which synchs up with all the machines at the gym by the way! How cool is THAT??), grabbed a water bottle, and headed to the gym.
When I got there, I got my card and all that junk, and then got sent in to find the very soft spoken and clearly terrified-by-me girl who was to show me all the machines. Fortunately, there was next to nobody in there, so when I nearly killed myself climbing on the elliptical machine, hardly anyone saw! And I did 5 whole minutes on it until I demanded to get off! Proud of me! I did 15 minutes on the treadmill WITH incline! Then she showed me how to use about a dozen weight machines...which I have already forgotten how to use. Ah well...I'm sure it will be fine. And they have these anti-bacterial wipey things that you have to use to wipe down the machines after you use them...how much do I LOVE an antibacterial moist towelette?? SO much!! So even my inner germaphobe has nothing to complain about!
All in all...I'm pretty proud of myself for just going. I mean, it was a REALLY big deal for me just to haul my fat butt to the gym at all, never mind actually touch things and talk to fitnessy people! I was wearing a pair of Linda's workout pants...they must have brought me luck! Now we'll see if I can keep this up several times per week, all summer long...
Awesome for you!!!I know it may sound totally off the wall, but you WILL get addicted!! It just makes you feel so much better after each workout. way cool for you, Gilly!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. You'll be a gym rat before you know it.
ReplyDeleteAs much as Gilly with endorphins frightens me, I'm so proud of your leap.
ReplyDeleteJess...me with endorphins is really something to behold...I was the darling of labour and delivery both times!
ReplyDeleteGilly, I am so psyched for you. Between your awesome choice to shun KFC & co. the other day and committing to the gym, it is so clear that you are on the right track and are going to work that band of yours all the way to goal. Congratulations on this big step!!

Wooohooo! Power to the gym babe!
ReplyDeleteKudos Gilly!
ReplyDeleteGO GILLY! I still have not gotten my lazy ass back to the gym yet, so you are my heroine.
ReplyDeleteAbout worrying: Being a reporter did the same thing for me that being an undertaker does for you. It turned me from an adventurous soul into a crazy neurotic mother. I was with my son on the playground last year and must have said, "Be careful!" about six hundred times - it's like a tic, I don't even realize I'm doing it. And another kid, about four years old, looked at me and said, "Why do you keep saying that to him?" EVEN THE FOUR-YEAR-OLD COULD TELL I'M CRAZY.
Way to go Gilly!
ReplyDeleteWell done, what a great move.....
ReplyDeleteYay Yay YAY!!! It gets easier, I swear.
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the title of this blog. You're so freaking cute. Good job sweets!
ReplyDeleteYou're my inspiration. A few more weeks (I'm only 3 weeks post-op) and I'm going to be right behind you.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl.
That is a huge milestone...congrats. And I love those wipes too...nothing like following a sweaty guy who has no towel....yuck!!!
ReplyDeleteYay Gilly!!! Congratulations on channeling your inner athletic chic! I know you are gonna kick butt and take names. Show that elliptical who is boss!
ReplyDeleteYaaaaaaaaaaaay! Just getting in the door is the hardest part! But you fought through it and the next time will be SO MUCH EASIER!
ReplyDeleteThat's great Gilly. Well done!
ReplyDeleteAwesome you'll be hooked on the gym before you know it :)
ReplyDeleteYay for you (this is coming from the gal who just put a "hold" on her gym account -- for decent reason though). I love the elliptical!
ReplyDeleteAwesome Gilly! Those pants need to be on someone who actually exercises! Maybe you'll be a good influence on me.
